The Scholastic Book Fair is coming back to West View this month with hot new titles (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, anyone?) and plenty of our favorite characters!

Students will visit the book fair on Monday 10/20 to browse the titles and make a wish list. Students who bring their iPads home will take photos of items (and their price tags) and students whose iPads stay at school will be given a “wish list receipt” with 2 items they pick. This should help give an idea of what they’re looking to buy and help with those book fair budget conversations. We’re also bringing back the lucky pencils for share the fair- when shoppers round up to the nearest dollar, they’ll be able to pick from our pencil box and if they get one with a colored tip they’ll win a poster!

Students will have an opportunity to shop at the book fair with their class on Tuesday 10/21 and at family shopping afterschool on Wednesday 10/22. We will wrap up the week with a last chance shopping window on Thursday morning before the fair gets packed up and sent back to Scholastic.

The proceeds from our book fairs help to fund our book bingo prizes, teacher wishlists, and stock our book vending machine. As always, thank you for your support of these important initiatives to help encourage reading throughout our school!

Happy National Box Tops Week!  To celebrate, our PTA is able to earn double Box Tops on receipts with Box Top items that you scan between October 13th-19th!  You can make a big impact for our school by downloading the Box Tops app.  When prompted for a referral code, type JV3Q9XX2.  You will then be able to add West View Elementary so that all the Box Tops receipts you scan will be credited to our school.

Once signed up, you can share your own unique referral code with family and friends and ask them to help support our school when they purchase items with a Box Top logo on them.  Scan your receipts to earn points for the PTA and you are able to choose a grade level to give that receipt credit to.

Giant Eagle has some great deals on Box Top items through October 15th and for every 4 of those items you buy, they’re offering 100 bonus Box Tops!  This bonus offer is good for up to 5 redemptions on a single receipt (so one shopping trip could amount to over $50 in box tops!)

Plan to visit the pumpkin patch with your West View friends on Sunday October 19th!

Wristband preorder is complete. Purchased bands will be sent home with your oldest student the week of Oct. 13th. Anyone wishing to join day of is welcome to purchase bands at the farm. They are $5 each. 

Your wristband will get you access to the pumpkin patch along with hayrides to and from the field. There are corn mazes, photo set ups, and more! Pumpkins are also available for purchase in the fields and at the market.

There are plenty of ways to get involved with our PTA. Many opportunities will require clearances on file with the district, but there are a handful that do not- like family events. Check out current opportunities by visiting this link. 

Join Miss Heather, owner of Art Imagined, for a 4-week art class. Students work on different art skills using various mediums. This session is Outer Space themed. From drawing to sculpting, it’s always a fun time!

The six-week curriculum features foundation vocabulary base introduced through games, singing and hands-on activities. Vocabulary repetition is vital to the learning process.
